Keeping an open mind
During the holidays I read the book Kun Lun by Liisa Cay Pasila. It’s a nice little book presenting asian wisdom through a simple back story, and I enjoyed it.
But as I read the book, I realised I recognised the quotes, stories and principles that the author wanted to present.
I was then doubly surprised, when not only did the story feature a nice twist in the plot, but I also found myself realising something new. I had always thought of the old saying “students will become teachers and teachers will become students” in very simple and practical terms. That OK, sometimes a student can teach something to the teacher as well. But the plot twist took the idea radically further, giving me a whole new perspective on this piece of wisdom.
What I learned from Kun Lun is that you should always keep an open mind, even if it seems you know everything about a subject already. Even the most familiar things can be put into a new light.
