It’s in the small things
After the disappointment of the Copenhagen climate conference I find myself starting another attempt at blogging. I think this article sums up most of my frustration. The opening paragraph already says a lot:
“The most progressive US president in a generation comes to the most important international meeting since the Second World War and delivers a speech so devoid of substance that he might as well have made it on speaker-phone from a beach in Hawaii.”
To keep myself sane in this world where a whole planet is held captive by politicians I have to believe in the small things. I have to believe that if those politicians, who’ve made such lousy decisions on behalf of the whole world, have been voted to do so by their people, we can influence what happens to the world only through the people. Educate them, open their eyes and just maybe they will vote for a different kind of leaders the next time around. And when trying to influence the ordinary people I believe that small things matter. This blog is based on that belief.
About the name of this (tumble)blog: Pienet asiat is finnish for “the small things”. As the english name was already taken on Tumblr and I happened to have the pienetasiat.net domain already registered I figured I’d go with the old name. Also as I will be taking a Finnish and Scandinavian view on many things I think the name is justified. To paraphrase a Finnish saying: “The name doesn’t worsen the blog, if the blog doesn’t worsen the name =)
